Gap Born to Fit Party and a Gap Giveaway!

Gap Born to Fit Party and a Gap Giveaway!

Born to Fit sign

Many of you have heard of Brand About Town and how awesome they are. But in case you haven’t, here’s the rundown. Brand About Town is the most amazing marketing firm in the world. Justine contacted to me a couple months ago (after the absolutely lovely Nicole Antoinette recommended me) and asked if I wanted to be a Gap Enthusiast. That basically entails accepting gifts and throwing a party. Oh, and they said if I wanted to I could talk about it on blogs, twitter, etc. (they didn’t tell me I had to… but I think they knew me well enough already, to be able to see I like talking).

Now, after my little interview with Justine, she took me shopping at the Gap and let me buy a new outfit. So I knew I was going to like this right away. But I have to be honest for a minute, I am not a big Gap shopper. I LOVE their ribbed tank tops (perfect for the gym!) and I buy my dad lots of Gap polos for gifts. But otherwise, most Gap clothing has always been over-sized on me and makes me think of middle school, when I had a thing for wearing over-sized khakis. But I actually found a super cute outfit when I was with Justine, so I figured, “hey, I’ll give this a try.” And then, I received this in the mail:

And it was like someone at Brand About Town knew me really, really well. And knew the moment I saw 6 little lip glosses, I would be sucked in. And I was. Not to mention, that adorable bag, and a bottle of perfume. Close. I love it. And again, Gap perfume used to remind me of middle school. Dream, anyone?

Not to mention this amazingness:

Annnd I haven’t taken it off since. Except for my party (it needed to be cleaned after all). Which brings us to the most exciting part of being a Gap enthusiast. The Born to Fit party! In which I would be presenting (and gifting) Gap’s new line of jeans, 1969, to my guests. For the first time in decades, the Gap has completely re-engineered the way they design jeans. And? They did an awesome job!

First of all, I must say that Chels played a huge part in this party and I most definitely couldn’t have done it without her. I’m sure I was asked to be the brand enthusiast since I’m a blogger all over the place like whoa, but this was Chels’s party too.

For one, you saw the out the incredible sign she made for my front door at the beginning of this post. And for the fitting room, of course:

Fitting Room sign

Um, and the place cards for the food? She used eyelets and snaps for them, replicating denim. Amazing? Yes!

Of course, we had a plethora of food. The theme (another of Chels’s grand ideas) was classic foods with an updated twist. Because, you know, the Gap is pretty classic, but they’re updating their jeans, hence the twist. Oh, and though you can’t see how spic and span my kitchen is, a HUGE thank you goes out to my sister Beth, her fiance Adam, and Chris. They came to my apartment after moving out of their house (Beth and Adam( and spent the whole afternoon cleaning my kitchen. Love them! The boys weren’t even invited to the party, but they still worked their butts off to help make it awesome for me.

Anyway, we munched on mac and cheese cupcakes, meatloaf cupcakes (really just individual, cupcake-size portions of the foods), bacon-wrapped cherries, fruit salsa with cinnamon sugar chips, mint chocolate chip cheesecakes (made by Katie), and ice cream cone cupcakes. And we sipped wine and some lovely blueberry vodka lemonade.

Party Food

Brand About Town sent me lots of cute Gap stuff like a big serving bowl and little m&m packets. Born to Play!

Born to... m&ms

I made ice cream cone cupcakes for dessert.

I opened up my deck (which I rarely do) and since it was so crazy hot, it was a nice place to hang out.

Nicole and Missy

Katie and Beth

And then… the jeans!!

By the way, our good friend Katie attended the party. The main reason she was invited is because she used to work at the Gap and was a denim expert!!! Just kidding, she would have been invited anyway πŸ™‚ But we were interested to hear her opinion. And she said the new line is definitely noticeably different; much more comfortable and designer-like. See? The denim expert speaks!

Meg was super excited to find her perfect “fit” and everyone loved the cute Born to Fit tote bags.

Meg with her Jeans

Unfortunately we had no maternity jeans, but I gave Kerry a gift card so she can find her perfect fit once she has her little bundle of joy and is ready for some regular jeans again.

Kerry and Sues

Liz looked seriously awesome in the Sexy Bootcut jeans. They fit her perfectly!!

Karen came into town and she and Sara both found jeans they loved!

Karen, Sara, Sues, Chels

My friends are clearly (kind of?) camera shy, as we set up iPhoto in the fitting room and told them to take photos of themselves, but they failed to. Also, Brand About Town was sooo nice and sent me an awesome Flip camera to record the party. But since I am video editing inept, this post doesn’t contain any video (I wanted to get the post up right away). But I’ll be figuring out how to edit it and will create another Born to Fit post video.

One of our favorite Boston bloggers, Susan, joined the party and though she couldn’t find her size, she took a gift card to go check out more sizes in the store. We wish more of our Boston bloggers could have joined us!

Chels, Susan, Sues

Chels and I both found our fits! I really am being totally honest when I say these jeans are awesome! I’m telling you I have not tried Gap jeans on since middle school and probably wouldn’t. Even if you told me they were getting new jeans, I would have said, “meh, no thanks.” But when I got a big box of them in the mail, I obviously put them on. And, really? The Born to Fit 1969 jeans fit like a designer jean. I am obsessed with the Always Skinny jean. Obsessed. And the Real Straight? Real amazing. The Sexy Boot were a bit long on me, but since these jeans are so much cheaper than the average designer jean,Β it would be no big deal to get them hemmed.

We are not Martha

And that was the main issue that people had with the new jeans. They were a bit long. But, I cannot even tell you how many people raved about the jeans and how surprised they were by them. Most of my guests said they wouldn’t ever go to the Gap for jeans, but that they actually really, really loved these. And I could tell they weren’t just saying that.

Check out the Always Skinny on me. I’m not one to brag, but cute, right? I wish Kyle kept her jeans on too because the straight AND the boot cut looked awesome!

So, in case you can’t tell I’m slightly obsessed with the Gap. Not just because they sent me all this cool stuff and gave me an excuse for an awesome party, but because I actually really like these jeans. And feel great in them.

Gap Gift Card Giveaway!

And that brings me to… the giveaway! I also received two $50 gift cards to the Gap and decided to give them to two of our amazing readers who couldn’t be at the party. 2. Sara says:

Thank you both so much for hosting a fantastic party! The food was great, and I was pleasantly surprised by how great the jeans looks, feel, and felt! I might need to go and buy a pair of the flared ones. The wash is AWESOME!

  3. Mary says:

OMG! I’m so excited about these jeans! I’ll admit, I have not shopped at Gap for a while, for pretty much the same reason you wrote about. But these jeans sound wonderful, and at reasonable prices! Can’t wait to try them!

  4. Kate says:

This is so cool! I’ve been frequenting the Coolidge Corner location all summer taking advantage of sale tees and sweaters (perfect for weekend -> office wear) but have yet to try any of the jeans. Now I definitely want to try out the Always Skinny. (PS, where did you get your gray and white striped top???)

  5. janel says:

What a fun party! I’m obsessed with jeans and can NEVER find my right fit. I’ve been looking forward to trying on some from Gap’s new line, especially with all your good reviews!

  6. danielle says:

I worked at the Gap when I was 16 and now that I have 2 babies, I shop more for them than me. I would love to try their new jeans…..I have a few more baby pounds left to drop first:)

  7. emrlds says:

seriously, i can’t believe i missed mac and cheese cupcakes! i’m 100% behind another boston blogger apartment takeover, so let’s make that happen. the jeans look awesome and i kind of want to go to the gap right now!

  8. emrlds says:

and ps, amazing job with the sings and cards, chels! they’re super cute.

  9. Erin says:

Some of my favorite jeans in the past have been Gap jeans. It’s nice to see them expanding their line with more fashionable cuts though.

  10. Amanda says:

Gap jeans have been my favorite. I love the straight leg style in the ankle length. Looking forward to trying the new line too!

  11. Samantha says:

I’m not sure how I feel about the Gap… When I have gone in I have found things I like but I haven’t been inclined to go in recently. I do like Gap Body though… πŸ™‚

  12. Susan says:

I can’t wait to go get my new jeans! Thanks for hosting us all on Saturday, the food was obviously delicious and the company, even better πŸ™‚

  13. Kristen says:

I LOVE your Born to Blog shirt. Gap definitely got that right!

I don’t remember the last time I bought a pair of jeans there, but I usually like their pants (good for work). And the dress I wore to my engagement party was purchased there and was perfect. I wish I could have been at the party! Thanks for the chance to win!

And I can’t believe how cute those little signs are for the food.

  14. alli says:

i want to go try on these jeans NOW! they look great! i’ll have to run by the mall this week. so glad you blogged this right now, since i was thinking this morning i need some new jeans. πŸ™‚

  15. Nicoel says:

The new 1969 denim is amazing, I got two pairs of the Real Straights the day they soft launched in Canada, and I’ve been living in them. I’ve also got the Perfect V Neck, which is what I believe your “Born To Blog” shirt is, and I can’t stop raving about them.

I’ve always been a huge Gap fan, but I didn’t really wear much of the denim until recently, because it didn’t really fit me properly. And as for the inseam issues you guys were having, it’s because so many people felt the old regular inseam length (32″) was a little short they changed it to 33″, which is still too long for me and I’m 5’7″ or so.

  16. Lexi says:

I’m going to a Gap party this week! Can’t wait!

  17. Julie Q says:

Awww I wish I could have made it, if not for the jeans, for the cupcakes and print treats (great job Chels!!). I hope to try out some Born To Fit jeans soon! Thanks for the Part y Recap ladies!

  18. Alana says:

I don’t think I’ve ever owned gap jeans! I’d love to test drive a pair πŸ™‚

  19. Amanda says:

I like shopping at Gap for basics – cardigans and pants for work. I have long legs, so their Long lengths in dress pants are perfect (and affordable). I have never owned a pair of Gap jeans, but after reading this post, I may have to!!

  20. Whitney says:

the GAP jeans ususally shrink up a little the first time you wash them.

i work at a gap outlet, where we have the 1969 premium denim, i assume it’s the same-but-different sort of thing… i’ve been wearing gap jeans for probably 6 years now, and the new cuts and fabrics are the most flattering and comfortable yet!

  21. I am so bummed I could not make the party! Boo for work committments.

I worked at the Gap in college but have not worn their jeans since. Some point along the way, the jeans were styled in such a way that none of them would really fit me – they always created a “gap”…heehee… in between my lower back and the jeans and would not lay flat. But I will absolutely give the new jeans a try-on.

Great post! And LOVE the ice cream cone cupcakes.

  22. Steph says:

Enter me! I could really use a new, perfect-fitting pair of jeans. πŸ™‚

  23. Shannon says:

Sounds like the party was a hit! I don’t currently own Gap jeans.. I pop into Gap every now and then to peruse the sale racks, but I don’t have any staple items that I buy there… Oh except for their built-in-bra camis- those are good for layering! But yes, after reading this entry, I just might check these new jeans out!

  24. AshleyD says:

Looks so fun! I can’t wait for my party on Friday! πŸ™‚

  25. Madison says:

I’ve been wearing Gap jeans since middle school- being tall and pear-shaped, they’re the only brand that fit just right! Very excited about the new fits!

  26. tara says:

I LOVE your Born to Blog shirt. Gap definitely got that right!I usually get my jeans at the Gap since the ankle length jeans fit me perfectly.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  27. emily says:

thanks for the recap! i was dying to hear how it went after you were telling me about it. i feel for your friend kerry, i haven’t squeezed this bottom into a pair of Gap jeans in months. come november, after the little turkey arrives, i’d so try these new styles out!

    btw, love the redesign.

  28. I’m a Gap fan, but have shyed away from their jeans because they used to “gap” pretty bad at the back. So I’ve totally switched to designer only jeans. I still shop for sweaters, fun tanks, etc at the Gap, but now might be willing to check out the new style of jeans for fall. hey, a girl needs a new pair of jeans even if she isn’t going back to school. it’s pretty much a fall tradition.

  29. Nancy says:

I go back and forth on my feelings for the Gap, and really it just depends on whether I can find things there that I like or not. But these jeans sound great and I would love the try some out. Thanks for the chance to win!

  30. Katie says:

awesome post! thank you so much for inviting me to the party, it was a such a good time and i was really impressed by the new demin line (as well as by the delicious food and gap signage). you girls did a fabulous job, yet again!

  31. Kristen says:

    I tweeted the contest too!

So this is my second entry πŸ™‚

  32. Brittany says:

I have not had the best luck with gap jeans in the past. Usually they do not fit quite right. I am always looking for nice looking jeans that are not super expensive, and these look really cute so I will definitely try them out. I do like Gap sweaters and am a big fan of GapBody pajamas.
    I love the new site!

  33. Meaghan says:

I love Gap jeans! They are the only jeans I own. I haven’t tried on the new ones but I’m super excited to after reading this!

  34. Meaghan says:

I tweeted about the giveaway so this is my second entry.

  35. Sarah says:

Woo! This sounds awesome! I’m like you- everything at Gap always seems boxy on me. But I am intrigued by these new jeans. I love the jeans at Old Navy (since their redesign), so I can’t wait to try these!

  36. Katie says:

I do love the Gap, though since I’ve gained weight (boo) I don’t shop there as much, BUT I did just buy a pair of jeans there recently that I love. I’d love the gift cards to use as a reward for losing weight!

  37. Jennifer Hamitlon says:

I love the GAP!! My favorite, albeit very worn, jeans are GAP!! I would love to try out the new style!!

  38. Jennifer Hamitlon says:

    Following on twitter and tweeted!
Thanks for the chance to win an awesome giveaway!!

  42. Meredith says:

I love the Gap. I love the that pants and the shirts come in lengths! Being 6′ tall and finding affordable clothes is hard to do and the Gap really helps. I can’t wait to check out the new jean line.

  43. Trudy says:

I shop at the GAP for cute tops, dress pants, & pajamas! I enjoy how their style is casual, yet fashionable and dressy at the same time.

  44. Sarah H says:

I’m wearing my new Gap jeans for the first time today and I really love them!

  45. Nicole says:

Hi Lady’s Thanks for having me at the party. I love The gap!!!!!
Hope to see the both of you soon

  46. Heather S says:

I have always really like the Gap. I find great staples from socks to scarves + coats. I love that a good portion of their merchandise is streamlined, meaning no graphic logos across shirts and the like. Their stuff is great to mix with other more decorated pieces.
And yes I will definitely try the new born to fit jeans!

  47. Shannon says:

I like Gap. I am definitely a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl so I like their stuff. And I love jeans so I will definitely try these born to fit jeans!

  48. Jessica says:

I’ve been liking the Gap so much more lately. I would LOVE to try their new jeans!

  49. Jennifer says:

I love love love the GAP. I know the politics behind it isn’t great, but when I’m looking for decent quality clothing that is cheap and easy, I head to the GAP. Plus I love their rewards coupons and the fact that you can depent on them for good sales. That said, I’ve never been a huge fan of GAP jeans-esp since I grew curves. I also find that I’m often between sizes. So, I’m very interested to check out their new line of denim!

  50. kim says:

Honestly, I’ve only found one pair of jeans from Gap that I liked. However, I did LOVE them. They’re on their last legs and I would love to try this new line!

  52. Emily says:

Have worn Gap jeans in the past, but they all stretch out so quickly! Super excited to try out the new jeans! I have my eye on the Always Skinny with the buttons up the ankle.

  53. maria says:

i’ve heard a lot about Brand About Town. I am always on the lookout for the perfect pair of jeans and I would love to try the Born to Fit line!

  54. ct says:

yay! i would love to try the new jeans as a former GAP jeans expert too!

  55. Amy says:

I had a pair of gap jeans that I loved and wore them to their death- meaning I couldn’t sew them up anymore. Since those jeans I haven’t been able to find a pair that works for me there. I guess I need to go back and try some born to fit.

  56. jimaiemarie says:

    What an awesome giveaway!!
I’ve never been able to afford to buy a new pair of GAP jeans so the ones I have are all used from Ebay (which is cool since theyre already broken in) BUT I would LOVE to be able to get a brand spankin new pair!
At the moment Long & Lean are my very fav but I think the Sexy Boot are really cute and would love to try them!!
    I heart jeans.

  57. Andrea says:

    So fun! Great write-up!

  58. Steph says:

I do love the Gap. It’s like the one store where I don’t walk in and feel either overwhelmed (any department store), too old (A&E, etc.), or poor (Banana Republic). πŸ™‚

  59. I worked at The Gap during college and my favorite style of jeans was the “slim fit.” Unfortunately they discontinued this style (tear!) but since the Gap is upping their game it sounds like the “Always Skinny” jean would be ever better! Woo! This makes me super excited since my favorite sknny jeans (from Urban Outfitters) recently developed too many holes to wear to work. And the fact that you say the “Born to Fit” jeans are running a little long is good news to me because I recently bought a pair of jeans at Old Navy and they were too short for my liking. (I’m 5’9″) I haven’t shopping at The Gap in a while (dang, I miss that discount!) but the new line of jeans has me intrigued! Hmmm I also wonder if they still fold their jeans the same way? HA! πŸ˜‰

  60. oops.
*haven’t SHOPPED at The Gap in a while …

  61. […] don’t forget to enter the Born to Fit Gap giftcard giveaway! Only 24 hours […]

  62. maggie says:

I LOVE Gap jeans – their Long & Lean style was always my fave. I hope I find a new kind I like!

  63. Sarah says:

I like the Gap. I’ve bought mainly t-shirts and dress pants (love them!) from there. I’d love to try on the new Gap jeans — they look so sexy and comfortable at the same time! And I’d like to have a pair of straight-leg jeans on hand to keep me going to the gym.

  64. I haven’t shopped at the Gap in a long time becasue the last time I did, the “long” styles weren’t long enough. I don’t really enjoy rocking denim high-waters so I haven’t been back. I’m really interested to try these “long and lean” styles the Gap has released because I am always searching for pants long enough!

By the way, the food at your party has me drooling all over my keyboard and co-workers are looking at me funny!

  65. Whitney says:

Ok really all I wear are gap jeans. And about once a year they go on sale for like $20 so I stock up. I love the long and lean. They just fit great. I’m a little hippy and they are just perfect with a little strech. That’s about the only time I go to gap b/c I do agree…it’s a little middle school. I remember taking the navy shopping bag to school with my gym cloths in it. You had to have that bag! Even if it was so worn b/c you haven’t shopped there again but you still used it for gym clothes!

  66. Martha says:

Hi! Just found your blog through a comment on Bakerella’s site. I had to read since I *AM* Martha, although not *THE* Martha.

I love Gap jeans and wear nothing but! Their new style is fantastic – much more designer-looking than before.

  67. Ashley says:

I am 37 weeks preggers with #2 and can honestly say I have not bought a new pair of jeans since before I was pregnant with #1 almost 3 years ago! I used to love GAP jeans and I look forward to trying out this new line soon since I am way past due for a wardrobe update after this little one is born and I can get my figure back again. Love your blog and we just moved to Boston so now I love it even more!!!!

  68. annalene says:

that looks like so much fun! i haven’t heard of the born to fit jeans before this post, but the cut and shades look good from what i’m seeing in this post- i’d love to go try them on!

  69. Lesa says:

I have been recently going into the Gap more and more and picked up a pair of their jeans that do say 1969 premium (so I am not sure if they are the same ones you had)….I do LOVE them and didn’t have to spend a small fortune. I do agree that they are a bit long as I had to get ankle length and there is still plenty of length to them with heels. Gap is good for staples and no hassle shopping. Perhaps they are revamping to get us back in there shopping again.

  70. Cindy says:

I love the Gap! I usually buy from the sales rack but this new line of jeans may cause me to exceed my budget just a little. πŸ˜‰

  71. Tricia Z says:

I love the Gap clothes and would be thrilled to try their Born To Fit jeans! Thanks so much!

  72. Chaya says:

I really want to try their nursing tops- they’re so cute.

  73. melanie says:

Your party looked like a lot of fun! I love my Always Skinny jeans! πŸ™‚

  74. Dara says:

Anyone know how much the yellow bag is worth? I never use mine and I am looking to sell it.

  75. julie says:

i definitely want to try the jeans and love shopping at gap!

  76. donna says:

love this! I love shopping at Gap and can’t wait to try the jeans!
