Chocolate  Peppermint  Cupcakes

Chocolate Peppermint Cupcakes are made with a rich chocolatey cupcake & festive peppermint frosting. Add a sprinkling of crushed candy canes & you'll instantly be in the holiday spirit!

Makes:  1 dozen cupcakes Prep Time: 15 mins Bake Time: 18 mins


– All-purpose flour – Cocoa powder – Baking powder – Baking soda – Salt – Granulated sugar – Light brown sugar – Buttermilk

– Vegetable oil – Large egg – Vanilla extract – Boiling water – Crushed candy canes

Peppermint Frosting Ingredients:

– Unsalted butter – Confectioners' sugar – Peppermint extract – Milk

Preheat oven to 350 degrees & line a 12-cavity cupcake tin with papers. – 

Prep Recipe

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, & salt.

Make Cupcakes

In a medium bowl, add both sugars, buttermilk, vegetable oil, egg, & vanilla. Stir together until well-combined.

Make Cupcakes

Add wet mixture to dry mixture, stirring until just combined. Pour boiling water into bowl & fold until just combined.

Make Cupcakes

Using a cookie scoop or spoon, fill each cupcake paper with batter about ¾ of the way full.

Make Cupcakes

Bake for 15-18 mins, until toothpick inserted into center comes out clean. Cool in the tin for a few mins & then move to a baking rack.

Make Cupcakes

Beat butter until light and fluffy, 2-3 mins. Add confectioners' sugar 1 cup at a time & continue to mix until incorporated. Mix in peppermint & milk.

Make Frosting

Slice cupcakes in half. Pipe frosting onto bottom half & replace top. Sprinkle candy cane around edges. Pipe frosting on top of cupcakes & sprinkle on more candy canes.
