Easy Latte Recipe

Dirty Chai Latte

Level Up your Chai Latte!

If you love chai lattes, but miss the extra caffeine or the flavor of espresso, you need to try a Dirty Chai Latte! I'm happy to share two ways for you to make this delicious hot drink.

What is a Dirty Chai Latte?

A typical masala chai is made with brewed black tea & a combo of warming spices, including cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, cloves, & black pepper. When turning chai tea into a latte, it's combined with steamed milk & froth. So, what makes a dirty chai latte different than a regular chai latte? Espresso!

Two Ways to Make it

There are two ways you can make a dirty chai. You can use either: 1) Chai Concentrate: This is how Starbucks makes their chais. Concentrates come with sugar in them, so you don't need to add more to your latte. or 2) Chai Tea Bags: Lots of people like to make chai lattes at home because they often taste more natural & you can sweeten to your liking.

– Chai tea bags or concentrate – Water – Strong espresso – 2 % milk: or the dairy/non-dairy alternative of your choice – Simple syrup, granulated sugar, brown sugar, honey, or agave (omit if using concentrate) – Ground cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom: for topping

In a heat-proof glass or mug, steep tea bags in the hot water for 3 -5 mins. Or add concentrate & hot water.

Step 1

Pour brewed espresso into tea mixture. Mix in sweetener of choice if using tea bags.

Step 2

Steam ½ cup milk & froth ¼ cup milk. You can either steam milk on the stovetop/in microwave & froth milk in an electric frother or with handheld frother/whisk OR steam & froth all milk together in a mason jar or heat-proof container

Step 3

Pour steamed milk into tea.

Step 4

Top with frothed milk. Sprinkle on cinnamon, nutmeg, or cardamom.

Step 5

This delicious hot drink will give you a nice morning or afternoon boost and is so tasty, too! Make it for your chai latte coffee  loving friends!
