Submerge skewers in water, coat them in sugar, & set out to dry.

Step #1

Attach clothespin or chip clip to top of skewers & balance over tops of jars. Be sure skewer is hanging 1" from bottom of jar.

Step #2

Bring water to a boil. Add sugar 1 cup at a time, stirring & letting  fully dissolve before adding more.

Step #3

Let mixture simmer for 5 minutes before removing from heat. Let mixture rest off the heat for about 15 minutes.

Step #4

Divide sugar solution amongst prepared jars. Stir in food coloring. Place skewers into solution. Try not to move jars once skewers are in.

Step #5

Wait! Crystals will star forming on your skewer within a day, but it will take 6-7 days for rock candy to fully form.

Step #6

When rock candy is fully formed, break sugar crust on top of jar and carefully remove sticks.

Step #7

Enjoy your rock candy! Eat it as a sweet treat, give it as gifts, or use it as party decor.
