What is a Macchiato?

A traditional macchiato is mostly espresso with a touch ("mark") of milk. But at Starbucks, they use a little espresso and a lot of dairy (or nondairy alternative), plus flavored syrup.

Ingredients:

– Apple brown sugar syrup (store-bought or recipe included) – Oat milk – Ice – Blonde espresso or coffee of choice – Ground cinnamon & nutmeg, for topping if desired

Syrup Ingredients:

– Water – Dark brown sugar – Sliced apples – Ground cinnamon

Put water, sugar, apples, & cinnamon in medium saucepan & bring mixture to a boil.

Make Syrup

Once boiling, lower heat & let simmer for 15-20 mins., until mixture thickens & apples have softened.

Make Syrup

Strain mixture into a bowl, pressing down on apples with a wooden spoon to extract juice.

Make Syrup

Keep syrup in bowl or pour into mason jar & place in fridge to cool completely before using. It will continue to thicken.

Make Syrup

Put apple brown sugar syrup into the bottom of a cup.

Make Macchiato

Pour oat milk over the top of the syrup. Add a generous amount of ice.

Make Macchiato

Slowly pour espresso over the top of the ice.

Make Macchiato

Drizzle top with additional syrup & cinnamon & nutmeg, if desired.
