Ingredients

  • 2 oz brewed blonde espresso or strongly brewed coffee slightly cooled
  • 2 tablespoon orange vanilla syrup (recipe below OR 1 tablespoon store-bought orange syrup and 1 tablespoon store-bought vanilla syrup)
  • Ice
  • 6 oz 2% milk
  • cup orange vanilla cold foam recipe below

Orange Vanilla Syrup

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 ½ tablespoon finely grated orange zest (grated with microplane) from about 2 large oranges
  • 2 vanilla bean pods split and scraped with seeds and pod reserved (OR 2 teaspoon vanilla extract as a swap)

Orange Vanilla Cold Foam

  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • cup 2% milk
  • 2 tablespoon orange vanilla syrup (recipe above OR 1 tablespoon store-bought orange syrup and 1 tablespoon store-bought vanilla syrup)

Instructions

  • Add espresso and 2 tablespoon orange vanilla syrup (or 1 tablespoon orange syrup and 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup) to a glass filled with ice.
  • Add milk to glass. Stir if desired.
  • Top the drink with about ⅓ cup of orange vanilla cold foam.

Orange Vanilla Syrup

  • Combine water, sugar, orange zest, and vanilla bean seeds and pod in a small saucepan (if using vanilla extract instead of vanilla beans, stir this in at the end after zest has been strained out). Bring just to a bare simmer (not a rolling boil), stirring until sugar is dissolved. Remove saucepan from heat.
  • Let the zest and vanilla bean steep into the syrup, off heat, for about 15 minutes. Strain out the zest and vanilla pod and let syrup cool completely before using.
  • Pour syrup into a mason jar or other airtight container and store in fridge for up to a month.

Orange Vanilla Cold Foam

  • Add cream, 2% milk and 2 tablespoon orange vanilla syrup (or 1 tablespoon orange syrup and 1 tablespoon vanilla syrup) to a mason jar (or other airtight container) and shake vigorously. Or mix all ingredients in a bowl until well combined. This is your orange vanilla cold cream. Keep it in the fridge until you're ready to turn it into cold foam right before using.
  • To turn into foam, you can either use an electric frother, hand mixer, or blender with ⅓ cup cream at a time. Alternatively, you can shake the mixture vigorously in a mason jar until it's frothy.

Notes

  • Orange vanilla syrup yield: this recipe makes about 1 ½ cups of syrup. Each drink uses 2 tablespoon in the latte, plus each batch of cold foam uses another 2 Tbsp. That works out to roughly 10 drinks' worth of syrup, depending on how you split it between the drink and the foam.
  • Cold foam yield: one batch makes enough to top about 3 drinks (each drink gets about ⅓ cup). Make the foam fresh the day you plan to use it.
  • Feel free to add more or less syrup to the drink depending on your own preferences.
