Ingredients

  • 2 shots (2 oz) espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • 3 tablespoon pumpkin spice sauce store-bought or homemade with recipe below
  • 1 ¼ cup 2% milk (or dairy/non-dairy alternative of your choice)
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Pumpkin pie spice for topping

Pumpkin Spice Sauce

  • 1 14-oz can fat-free sweetened condensed milk (use regular if you can't find fat-free)
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • ⅓ cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Brew espresso (or coffee) into a heat-proof glass. Stir in pumpkin pie sauce.
  • Steam and froth milk. You can either steam 1 cup of milk on the stovetop/in the microwave and froth ¼ cup milk in an electric frother or with a handheld frother/whisk OR steam and froth all the milk together in a mason jar or heat-proof container (see notes for how-to).
  • Pour steamed milk into espresso and top off with frothed milk.
  • Add whipped cream and top with pumpkin pie spice.

Pumpkin Pie Sauce

  • Put condensed milk in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat, along with pumpkin puree, brown sugar, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.
  • Stir together and heat for about 5 minutes, until it's just starting to bubble.
  • Remove it from the heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • Pour the pumpkin spice sauce into a heat-proof jar or bowl and place in the fridge to cool.

Notes

  • For steaming and frothing milk together in mason jar:
-Put all 1 ¼ cup milk in a large mason jar or heat-proof container (it should only be half full), put the lid on, and shake the jar as hard as you can for about 30 seconds, until frothy.
-Remove lid and place the jar in the microwave for 45 seconds.
-Pour the steamed milk right into your espresso and spoon the froth on top.
  • Homemade pumpkin spice sauce should keep fresh for about a week when stored in an airtight container in the fridge.
