Sonic Ocean Water {Copycat Recipe

Summer drinks don't get much more fun than Sonic Ocean Water. It's sweet, full of coconut flavor, and an iconic shade of blue... and it takes about two minutes to make this copycat version at home!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup crushed or nugget ice
  • 2 ½ tablespoon blue coconut syrup (with recipe below or store-bought)
  • ¾ cup Sprite chilled (or similar lemon lime soda)

Blue Coconut Syrup

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ½ teaspoon coconut extract
  • 8-10 drops blue food coloring

Instructions

  • Fill glass with crushed ice or nugget ice. Pour the syrup over the ice and top with Sprite. Give it a gentle stir to combine.

Blue Coconut Syrup

  • Put water and sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil.
  • Once boiling, lower heat and let mixture simmer for about 10 minutes until sugar is completely dissolved and mixture has thickened (it will continue to thicken as it cools).
  • Remove saucepan from heat and stir in the coconut extract and blue food coloring. Let syrup cool completely before using. Store in the fridge in an airtight container like a mason jar for up to a month.

Notes

  • Blue Coconut Syrup recipe makes enough syrup for about 8 drinks.
  • If you can't find blue coconut syrup and don't want to make your own, you can simply add blue coloring to regular coconut syrup.
