We get really excited whenever
This October,
The drinks perfectly encapsulate both of the show's main character witches with Glinda's Pink Potion and Elphaba's Green Elixir.
As with most of their special edition drinks, these ones are made with ingredients already in stock at
Or you can make the Wicked drinks at home with my copycat recipes!
🩷 What is Glinda's Pink Potion?
Glinda's Pink Potion is all about the pink, just like Glinda. The drink itself is actually pretty simple, but it's a "fantabulous" fruity combination.
The drink is simply a Dragon Drink (Mango Dragonfruit Refresher base mixed with sweetened coconut milk) topped with nondairy strawberry cold foam and a sprinkling of sanding sugar sprinkles.
It's fruity, sweet, and a lovely flavor combination!
🗒 Ingredients
There are a few different components to GIinda's Pink Potion, but for many of them, you have the option to purchase them or make them from scratch.
I break everything down for you to show you what you need and how to make each part of the drink (be sure to view the recipe card at the bottom of this post for ingredient amounts and full recipe instructions).
For the full assembly of the drink, you need:
- Mango Dragonfruit Refresher Base (see below)
- Sweetened coconut milk (the kind in a carton)
- Freeze-dried dragon fruit pieces
- Nondairy strawberry cold foam (see below)
- Sanding sugar sprinkles:
Starbucks uses pink sugar and green sugar
Here's what you need for the Mango Dragonfruit Base:
- Dragon fruit syrup: You can easily purchase a bottle of dragon fruit syrup that's perfectly pink and great for this drink. If you prefer, you can make homemade dragon fruit syrup with my recipe. You can make it with either fresh dragon fruit or powdered dragon fruit or you can use both if you want to use fresh, but also have a pink syrup (syrup does not have to be pink since the freeze-dried dragon fruit pieces will turn your Refresher pink/purple).
- Water
- Mango nectar: or mango puree or mango juice
- Citric acid: can substitute with lemon juice if desired
- Green coffee bean extract powder: you can omit this if you don't want your Refresher to have caffeine in it
Here's what you need for the nondairy strawberry cold foam:
- Soy milk: I use a soy milk and oat milk combo because that's what
Starbucks does, but you can stick to one or the other if you want. I recommend barista style or extra creamy - Oat milk: again, I recommend barista style or extra creamy
- Strawberry puree: You can either purchase a bottle of strawberry puree or use store-bought puree
- Soy lecithin powder: this is an optional ingredient that helps the nondairy milks froth up a little better, but the cold foam will still work without it
- Soy protein isolate: this is another optional ingredient that helps
Note that nondairy cold foam doesn't froth up quite the same way as dairy cold foam does and I much prefer making it with dairy milk. If you don't need your cold foam to be nondairy, I recommend using 2% milk and heavy cream instead of soy milk and oat milk. You can also eliminate the soy lecithin powder and soy protein isolate powder if doing this.
If you're making your own strawberry puree, you need:
- Whole strawberries
- Granulated sugar
- Water
🍓 How to make nondairy strawberry cold foam
I recommend getting the strawberry cold foam going so that it will be ready after you mix up your Dragon Drink.
If you've never made your own cold foam, you may be surprised to learn how easy it is! I have a whole post on how to make Starbucks cold foam, but the coffee shop uses a nondairy foam on this drink.
Nondairy is just as easy to make, but I do recommend using a couple powder stabilizers to help it foam up better.
I always look at
Starbucks also adds soy lecithin and soy isolate protein to their mixture as these ingredients enhance the frothing and stability of nondairy milks. In my testing, I found that they do indeed help, but that you can still get a decent froth without them.
If you're making your own strawberry puree, all you have to do is add the strawberries, sugar, and water to a blender and process until smooth.
Add soy milk, oat milk, strawberry puree, and soy lecithin and soy isolate protein (if using) to a mason jar and shake to combine.
If you don't have a jar, you can simply stir all the ingredients together in a bowl.
If you're not using this right away, you can keep it in an airtight container in your fridge. This is your nondairy strawberry sweet cream and you can simply add it to your drinks just like this if you want.
But
I recommend turning it into a cold foam right before you're ready to enjoy your drink.
To turn it into a cold foam, you can either use an electric frother, hand mixer, or blender. I love my electric frother.
Just add the sweet cream and froth, mix, or blend until the mixture turns into a foam. Alternatively, you can shake the mixture in a mason jar until it's frothy.
🐉 How to make Dragon Drink
The Mango Dragonfruit Refresher base is really easy to make! You just need to put all the ingredients (dragon fruit syrup, water, mango nectar, citric acid, and green coffee bean extract powder if using) in a large mason jar.
And shake until well combined.
Then you'll add about ½ cup of this mixture, ½ cup of the sweetened coconut milk, and ¼ cup freeze-dried dragon fruit pieces to an ice-filled shaker.
And shake really well to combine.
Pour the entire shaker (ice included) into a cup or glass.
And top with a generous helping of the strawberry cold foam.
Add sanding sugar on top.
Isn't it such a pretty drink?
I absolutely love the Dragon Drink as is, but adding strawberry cold foam on top of it gives it an even creamier and fruitier flavor and really takes it to a whole new level of deliciousness.
🎉 Modifications
Honestly, it feels a little silly to make variations on this because this IS Glinda's Pink Potion and anything else will make it an entirely different drink.
But I do have some simple modifications for you and a couple variations to suit the drink to your tastes:
- Feel free to make the cold foam with dairy milks. I recommend replacing the soy milk with 2% milk and replacing the oat milk with heavy cream. You can omit the two thickening powders because these milks will have no problem frothing!
- If the drink is too sweet for you, you can cut down on the amount of syrup in the base and add more water instead. Or you can use unsweetened coconut milk.
- If you don't have citric acid, you can add about a tablespoon of lemon juice instead. I do love the extra little zing citric acid gives the drink, but lemon juice will have a similar effect and is a common household ingredient.
- I do highly recommend using the freeze-dried dragon fruit for both the beautiful pink color and the flavor, but if you don't have them, you can mix in a scoop of actual dragon fruit instead or just mix in some dragon fruit powder for a similar effect.
- Lots of Dragon Drink copycat recipes online call for white grape juice because Starbucks uses white grape juice concentrate in their mixture. I experimented with grape juice a lot when I made the original Mango Dragonfruit Refresher and couldn't get the flavor balance right, but as an easy shortcut, you can use it instead of using dragon fruit syrup and water in the base. You can even try apple juice or another fruit juice if you prefer. The freeze-dried dragon fruit will add the color.
- This drink would also be delicious with vanilla cold foam or even dragon fruit cold foam.
- To make the drink caffeine-free, omit the green coffee bean extract powder from the base.
⚡️ Does this drink contain caffeine?
When you order Glinda's Pink Potion at
A lot of people assume that these types of drinks don't contain any caffeine because they're not coffee or tea-based drinks. But they do have a little bit, though much less than their other drinks.
For this make-at-home version of the Pink Potion, you can leave the coffee extract out to omit the caffeine content.
⏲️ How to store
You can store the Mango Dragonfruit base for the drink in your fridge for about a week. Just be sure to keep it in an airtight container like a mason jar.
I recommend waiting until right before you're ready to enjoy a Glinda's Pink Potion to mix the base with coconut milk and to add the cold foam. If you mix the drink too soon, it may separate a bit and curdle a little thanks to the acids and dairy combining.
The strawberry cold cream should keep fresh in a sealed mason jar (or other airtight container) in your fridge for about 5 days and you shouldn't turn it into a cold foam until right before you're ready to use it.

- ¼ teaspoon soy protein isolate (optional)
Strawberry Puree
- 8 large strawberries hulled
- ½ tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Add about ½ cup mango dragonfruit base, ½ cup coconut milk, and ¼ cup freeze-dried dragon fruit pieces to an ice-filled shaker. Shake well to combine.
- Pour entire mixture (ice included) into glass.
- Top with strawberry cold foam and sanding sugar.
Mango Dragonfruit Refresher Base
- Add dragon fruit syrup, water, mango nectar, citric acid, and green coffee bean powder (if using) to a large jar or container. Shake well to combine and refrigerate until ready to use.
Nondairy Strawberry Cold Foam
- Mix soy milk, oat milk, strawberry puree, soy lecithin and soy protein isolate (if using) in a mason jar and shake to combine. Alternatively, you can stir all ingredients together in a bowl. If you're not using right away, keep in an airtight container in the fridge (you can use this nondairy strawberry sweet cream in drinks as is if you want).
- Turn mixture into cold foam right before using. You can either use an electric frother, hand mixer, or blender. Just add about ⅓ of the sweet cream and froth, mix, or blend until the mixture turns into a foam (I usually froth half of the batch at a time in my electric frother). Alternatively, you can shake the mixture in a mason jar until it's frothy.
Homemade Strawberry Puree
- Put all ingredients in a blender and process until smooth. Pour puree into a bowl or glass.
Notes
- The base recipe makes enough for about 4 full (grande) drinks if using ½ cup of base per drink. It should keep fresh in the fridge for about a week.
- If you don't have citric acid, you can replace with 1 tablespoon lemon juice.
- Each batch of cold foam is enough for about 3 drinks.
- Strawberry Puree recipe should make enough for about 2 batches of cold foam.
- Strawberry cold cream should keep fresh in your fridge for about 5 days.
- If you don't want to use both soy and oat milk in your cold foam, you make the foam with just one of the milk alternatives. Or you can make it with dairy (I recommend ¾ cup 2 % milk and ¼ cup heavy cream)
- The soy lecithin and soy protein isolate helps froth and stabilize the cold foam, but you can still make a decent foam without them.
