Love it or hate it, there's no denying that candy corn screams Halloween and instantly gets you in the mood for all things festive and fall.
And this candy corn milkshake looks just like the sweet treat! If you're not a fan of the divisive candy, I will assure you that no candy corns were harmed in the making of this milkshake.
That's right; it's candy corn free! But I did add butter extract and vanilla extract to it to give it a bit of that classic candy corn flavor.
🧡 Why this recipe works
It tastes like candy corn... But doesn't have to: it's easy to adjust the flavoring of the milkshake to accomadate to all tastes.
The layers are perfectly defined: thanks to the ratio of ice cream to milk and some time spent in the freezer, the layers of the milkshake stay defined. But keep in mind, they'll start to blend the longer the milkshake sits out.
It's kid-friendly: kids will absolutely love this special Halloween treat that's only a tiny bit more difficult to make than a regular milkshake.
Easy to make ahead: as long as you keep the milkshake in the freezer, you can make it ahead of time and pull it out when you and your family are ready to enjoy it.
🗒 Ingredients
You don't need much to make a homemade candy corn milkshake! Here's everything required (be sure to view the recipe card at the bottom of this post for ingredient amounts and full recipe instructions):
- Vanilla ice cream
- Whole milk
- Butter extract
- Vanilla extract: imitation will get you that sickly sweet candy corn flavor
- Yellow and orange food coloring: I recommend using gel food coloring
- Whipped cream: optional
- Sprinkles: optional. I like these candy corn sprinkles
🍦 Recipe tips
- Blend milkshake until just smooth. Over-blending will warm the mixture and amke it runny.
- Add extracts for candy corn flavor. I like to use a little butter extract and a little imitation vanilla extract. But you can also use cake mix extract if you prefer.

- Use gel food coloring to get yellow and orange layers. Gels allow you to use just a little for a vibrant color with no watering down.
- You want three roughly equal portions, though I like to use a little less white since the top of the candy corn is smaller.

- Be careful when spooning milkshake layers in as you want the glass to be neat. You can even pipe in the mixture if that's easier.

- It's imperative that you chill the layers for at least 15 minutes before adding another layer on top. If you don't do this, the colors will instantly begin bleeding together.
- If this is too much milkshake for you, you can certainly divide it into two smaller glasses.

- The milkshake looks pretty fabulous as is, but you can top it with whipped cream, sprinkles, actual candy corn candies, and anything else your little Halloween heart desires.
- If you're making it ahead and keeping it in the freezer, hold off on adding toppings until you're ready to enjoy. You'll also likely want to let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften it a bit.

🎉 Recipe variations
If you love the idea of a pretty candy corn milkshake, but don't want it to taste anything like candy corn, simply leave out the butter extract! You'll be left with a delicious vanilla milkshake.
If you DO love the flavor of candy corn, you can even stir in some of my candy corn syrup that's made with the actual candy!
You can also feel free to swirl marshmallow fluff into the milkshake, top it off pumpkin candies, blend in some white chocolate chips for added sweetness, or give the glass a white chocolate rim.

I'm thrilled that this milkshake looks like a candy corn and tastes like a candy corn... it's a Halloween candy lover's dream come true.
