It is my ever so humble opinion that Twix are one of the most delicious candies in the world. The chocolate-covered caramel shortbread bars are my idea of heaven and they're not appreciated nearly enough.

When I heard about the Twix Frappuccino at Starbucks, I immediately knew I had to recreate it at home. If you haven't heard about this drink, it's likely because it isn't an official Starbucks menu drink, but is a part of the "secret menu.

🕵️‍♀️ What is the Starbucks secret menu?

In case you're not familiar, the Starbucks secret menu is a huge list of unofficial fan-created drinks you can order at the coffee shop. This resource has so many secret menu drinks listed and Starbucks fans are always coming up with new drinks to order.

The Pink Drink actually started on the secret menu, but now it's on their regular menu and one of their most popular drinks.

You shouldn't order secret menu drinks by name as most baristas won't know what you're asking for when you order a Twix Frappuccino. Instead, you should order them by ingredients. For instance, here's how to order the "Caramel Cookie Bar Frappuccino" AKA the Twix Frappuccino.

💜 Why you'll love this recipe

Do you love Twix bars? Do you love Frappuccinos? If you answered yes to one or both of those questions, then you will absolutely love this drink! It tastes like a Twix candy bar in cold, creamy liquid form.

It's easy to make at home, which means not only will you be saving money on coffee drinks, but you'll be able to enjoy this drink whenever you want!

    🗒 Ingredients

A Twix Frappuccino is essentially a Caramel Frappuccino with the addition of hazelnut syrup, java chips (or chocolate chips), and mocha sauce.

Despite what you might think, Caramel Frappuccinos are actually made with caramel syrup and not caramel sauce. The cup is drizzled with caramel sauce, but the syrup is blended into the Frappuccino.

So, while you don't need too many ingredients to make this drink, you do need two different syrups: a caramel syrup and a hazelnut syrup. I share the recipes for how to make these, but you can also feel free to purchase them if you'd prefer.

I also like to make my own mocha sauce, but you can feel free to purchase that, too. Same for the caramel sauce!

    Here's everything you need:

    • Whole milk
    • Cooled espresso or strongly brewed coffee
    • Xanthan gum (or cornstarch)
    • Caramel syrup
    • Hazelnut syrup
    • Chocolate chips (I like to use mini)
    • Caramel Sauce
    • Mocha Sauce

I do recommend using the xanthan gum in your Frappuccino as it will act as a thickening agent and make your drink more creamy and Frappuccino-like than it would be without. Starbucks uses it in their Frappucino base.

If you can't find it, you can use cornstarch, but it doesn't work quite as well.

If you leave it out, your drink will still be delicious, but it will be a bit "clumpier" than and not as creamy as the typical Frappuccino.

    🍯 Syrups and Sauces

If you prefer to purchase the caramel and hazelnut syrups, here are some options for each:

    • Starbucks Caramel Syrup
    • Torani Caramel Syrup
    • Jordan's Skinny Sugar-Free Caramel Syrup
    • Starbucks Hazelnut Syrup
    • DaVinci Hazelnut Syrup
    • Jordan's Skinny Sugar-Free Hazelnut Syrup

And if you want to purchase the sauces, these ones are great!

    • Ghirardelli Caramel Sauce
    • Ghirardelli Chocolate Sauce

    🍫 What are java chips?

At first I was a bit worried because I couldn't find java chips anywhere. I thought these must be some kind of coffee chocolate chips. But nope, they're really just chocolate chips!

They are specially formulated to blend better in iced drinks, but don't worry, chocolate chips will work just fine for this Frappuccino! I like to use mini chocolate chips as I think they blend in a little bit better.

🧋 How to make a Twix Frappuccino

Making the Frappuccino is simple! Just put milk, espresso, caramel syrup, hazelnut syrup, xanathan gum, and chocolate chips in a blender.

Overhead view of milk, espresso, syrups, and chocolate chips in blender.

    And process until smooth.

Drizzle caramel sauce all around the inside of a cup or glass.

Cup with caramel sauce drizzled in it.

And pour the Twix Frappuccino into the cup. Top it with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and mocha sauce.

If you have any Twix bars on hand, you can crumble one up and sprinkle it over the top.

And now you can enjoy all the goodness of Twix in the form of an icy cold Frappuccino... Basically heaven!

This really does taste like a Twix Frappuccino, but you can of course, make adjustments to the amounts of each ingredient to customize it to your own tastes!

    💡 Substitutions and modifications

I like to make my Starbucks copycat drinks as authentic as possible, but there are a couple things you can do to make this Twix Frappuccino even easier to make! Here are some ideas:

    • Though Starbucks does use caramel syrup in their Caramel Frappuccino, you can substitute with caramel sauce if you don't want to make or purchase both. The syrup dissolves into the mixture a bit easier instead of clumping up like caramel sauce can do in cold drinks. But it should still taste extra delicious.
    • If you don't want to make or purchase a fancy mocha sauce, you can simply drizzle Hershey's syrup over the top.
    • If you don't have xantham gum, you can use cornstarch in the Frappuccino. I don't think it works quite as well and I recommend using a bit more, but it will still help get the typical Frappuccino consistency. If you don't use either, this will still be a delicious drink!
    • If you don't have hazelnut syrup and have some Twix bars, you can try simply blending the Twix right into the Frappuccino (leave the chocolate chips out if you do this). It won't be an exact replica of the Starbucks Twix Frappuccino, but it will be super delicious!

☕️ Can I leave coffee out?

Sure! If you want to make this Frappuccino caffeine-free, you are definitely welcome to leave the espresso out.

Basically, there are lots of ways to make this drink and you really can't go wrong when you're mixing chocolate, caramel, and hazelnut into an icy blended drink!

    🥤 More Starbucks copycat recipes

I've pretty much become a barista in my own home and have built up a collection of must-make Starbucks copycat drinks I enjoy all the time! Here are my favorites:

    • Strawberry Acai Refresher
    • Pink Drink
    • Iced Toasted Vanilla Oatmilk Shaken Espresso

    • Apple Crisp Macchiato
    • Chocolate Covered Strawberry Frappuccino
    • Iced Sugar Cookie Almond Milk Latte
