An ice cold "hot" chocolate packed with peanut butter, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Reese's Pieces?? Yes! This Peanut Butter Frozen Hot Chocolate is a rich and creamy frozen drink that makes hot chocolate a totally acceptable warm weather treat!

Have you ever noticed there are three types of coffee drinkers in this world?

The first type drinks hot coffee in the cold months and iced coffee in the warm months. The second type drinks hot coffee all year round, no matter the temperature outside. And the third type drinks iced coffee all year round, no matter the temperature outside.

I am the second type. Give me a cup (or 10) of hot coffee every single morning even if it's 98 degrees out. I can't start my day with anything but hot coffee.

But hot chocolate? I'd never even think to drink hot chocolate unless there's a blizzard outside and I just came in from shoveling the driveway for an hour or two.

Hot chocolate in the spring or summertime? Not a chance. And that, my friends, is exactly what frozen hot chocolate is for.

Frozen hot chocolate is the answer to all your hot chocolate cravings in the hot months. It's rich and creamy and totally frozen.

This particular one is made with creamy peanut butter, peanut butter cups, AND Reese's Pieces. It's so good, you might actually find yourself making it in the middle of a blizzard!

How to Make Peanut Butter Frozen Hot Chocolate

Frozen hot chocolate may be a tad more difficult to make than the standard hot chocolate, but it's still super easy!

For this peanut butter version, you'll want to start by embellishing the rim of your glass. Obviously you can skip this step if you want to get right to the frozen hot chocolate faster, but how can you resist a Reese's Pieces-covered rim??

Brush chocolate sauce around the rims of glasses or mugs and place crushed Reese's Pieces on a small plate.

Rotate glass upside-down on plate to coat rims in Reese's Pieces. Save any remaining Reese's Pieces for topping whipped cream.

This peanut butter frozen hot chocolate is already amazing!

For the drink, add chocolate to the bowl of a double boiler (or to a heat-proof bowl set over a pot of gently simmering water) and stir until melted.

Whisk in cocoa powder and 1 cup whole milk. Stir until smooth.

Remove from heat and let mixture cool to room temperature (you can put it in the fridge to speed up process).

    Hot chocolate mixture in bowl

Pour remaining 1 cup milk, cool chocolate mixture, peanut butter, peanut butter cups and ice in blender and process until smooth.

Pour the peanut butter frozen hot chocolate into prepared glasses or mugs and top with whipped cream and remaining crushed Reese's Pieces.

Add on an extra peanut butter cup if desired. And you obviously desire. How could you not??

This frozen drink is a peanut butter lover's dream come true! Also, a chocolate lover's dream come true. And most importantly, my dream come true... And hopefully yours, too!

I can't get over the fact that there's both peanut butter AND peanut butter cups blended into it... Plus, Reese's Pieces on the rim and sprinkled over the top (p.s. if you love Reese's Pieces, you also need to try these brownies!).

It may take a tad bit longer to make than the typical hot chocolate, but it's still fairly quick and very easy. And oh so worth it.

Can I Make This With Hot Chocolate Mix?

Yes! I use cocoa powder to make frozen hot chocolate because I always have it on hand.

But if you prefer to use hot cocoa mix, you can. It will make the drink a little bit sweeter since hot cocoa mix has sugar in it, but that shouldn't be a problem!

Additionally, if you don't have high-quality chocolate on hand, you could use chocolate sauce or chocolate fudge instead. Just mix it into the milk as it's heating.

But I do have to tell you a chopped chocolate bar will make a much richer and more delicious frozen hot chocolate.

    More Frozen Drink Ideas

When the warm weather hits, the cravings for frozen drinks begin! Though I'll always start my day with hot coffee, I love a fun frozen drink on a summer afternoon.

Here are some of my favorites... All are kid-friendly, too!

Who says hot chocolate is just for winter??

Instead of hot chocolate after an afternoon of shoveling, enjoy a peanut butter frozen hot chocolate after an afternoon of mowing the lawn. Or gardening. Or hiking. Or any warm weather activity.

But like I said, I wouldn't blame you if you became a year-round frozen hot chocolate drinker. This version is too good to only enjoy in the warm weather months!
