Summer may be officially s'mores season, but for me, there's no season that's not perfect for s'mores.
While you may not be out by the campfire toasting marshmallows in the middle of winter, there are so many ways to enjoy the delightful flavors of s'more all year round!
Whether you want to make ice cream, pavlova, or cookies; as long as you can get your hands on graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows, you can make any of your treats s'mores flavored.
I'm especially excited about this recipe for s'mores popcorn because it's SO easy to make and will let you enjoy the flavors of summer no matter the time of year.
❤️ Why you'll love this recipe
Are you a fan of s'mores? This popcorn is the perfect summer snack for sitting on the couch for movie night or for sitting around the campfire on a cool night. It's even a great hiking snack!
S'mores popcorn is super easy to make with just a few ingredients and it will be loved by both kids and adults.
🗒 Ingredients
There's nothing complicated about this dessert popcorn. Here's everything you need (be sure to check out the recipe card at the bottom of this post for ingredient amounts and full recipe instructions):
- Vegetable oil: I like to use canola oil, but you can use the high smoke point oil of your choice
- Popcorn kernels
- Graham cracker crumbs and pieces: I like to gently crush them, so they're a mixture of crumbs and small pieces (see photo below)
- Mini marshmallows
- Milk chocolate or semisweet chocolate: you can either use chips or a chocolate bar that's been roughly chopped
🍫 How to make s'mores popcorn
I love to pop my own popcorn fresh and I have a super easy technique for doing so to share with you.
However, if you prefer, you can certainly use already popped popcorn for this snack. I just recommend that you get unsalted, unbuttered, and unflavored popcorn.
To pop your own, put the vegetable oil (like canola oil) or coconut oil and popcorn kernels in a large pot or dutch oven over medium-high.
When the first kernel pops, cover the pot and remove it from the heat for about 30 seconds.
Then, place the saucepan back on the stove and once the rest of the kernels start popping, vigorously shake the pot back and forth, keeping it on heat.
Once popping slows, take the pot off the heat and remove the cover. Discard any unpopped kernels.
Transfer the popcorn to a large bowl and mix in crushed graham crackers and mini marshmallows.
Melt your chocolate.
I recommend putting the chocolate chips in a heat-safe bowl and microwaving it at 50% power for 30 second increments. Be sure to remove the bowl and stir the chocolate gently in between increments.
Do this until the chocolate is fully melted.
Of course, you are also welcome to melt the chocolate in a double boiler.
And drizzle the melted chocolate all over that s'mores popcorn mixture. Toss to combine.
I like to pour the popcorn mixture onto a baking sheet at this point, so that the chocolate can set.
And then serve it up in little bowls! Or you can even put it in individual bags for an on-the-go snack.
This popcorn has ALL the flavors of s'mores with no campfire required.
It's so easy to make and just a little bit too addictive. But it's the best summer night movie snack. OK, and also pretty delicious in the middle of winter when you're seriously missing campfire season.
⏲️ How to store
S'mores popcorn is always best when enjoyed fresh, but you can also store it for about 3 days in an airtight container kept in a cool, dark spot.
I recommend placing a sheet of parchment paper between layers of popcorn to help absorb any excess moisture and to keep the popcorn from getting soggy.
This recipe makes about 12 cups of popcorn, so it's certainly enough for a small crowd of movie watchers!
🎉 Variations on recipe
One of my favorite things about s'mores is how simple they are: just graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate. But I've also been known to love a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup in my s'mores!
This s'mores popcorn recipe sticks pretty closely to the original s'mores combination, but there are also lots of variations and ingredient add-ins you could use.
Here are some of my favorite ideas:
- Add crushed peanut butter cups
- Use a white chocolate drizzle
- Add in chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, or butterscotch chips
- Drizzle in a caramel sauce or peanut butter
- Mix in M&Ms
- Add nuts, like peanuts or almonds
- Use flavored marshmallows
- Add shredded coconut
- Add your favorite crushed Oreo cookies
- Add sprinkles for an even more fun look
- Add a little mint extract if you love mint s'mores

Why do chocolate, marshmallow, and graham crackers taste so good together?? They are the best summer combination that really doesn't have to be limited to the summer season.
The perfect summer snack, I highly recommend taking this s'mores popcorn with you for a special camping treat as an alternative to roasting marshmallows and making s'mores.
But I prefer to enjoy it lounging on the couch while watching a good movie.
