🥤 What is the Lavender Créme Frappuccino?
When you see the word Crème in front of a Frappuccino drink at
The Lavender Crème Frappuccino is a simple drink and really just consists of a vanilla Frappuccino with lavender powder blended in. And, of course, it's topped with whipped cream.
For most of their drinks,
Starbucks describes the new drink as "a delicious blend of floral lavender and sweet vanilla in every sip" and that is most certainly the case.
❤️ Why you'll love this recipe
If you like sweet drinks reminiscent of ice cream with light floral color, this drink will definitely be for you.
Of course, because it's such a pretty lavender hue, it makes for the perfect Instagram-friendly drink, too!
The drink is very easy to make at home, thought I do have a couple special ingredients I recommend using to perfect your Frappuccino.
As always, I strive to make my
🗒 Ingredients
Here's everything you need to make the perfect Lavender Crème Frappuccino at home (be sure to view the recipe card at the bottom of this post for ingredient amounts and full recipe instructions):
- Whole milk
- Heavy cream
- Vanilla syrup: you can either use homemade vanilla syrup or store-bought.
- Lavender powder: I include my recipe for homemade lavender powder in this post, but if you prefer, you can substitute with lavender syrup (store-bought or homemade)
- Xanthan gum: this special ingredient helps thicken the Frappuccino and give it a creamier consistency. You can substitute with cornstarch, but you should use a little bit more.
- Ice
- Whipped cream: for topping
And here's what you'll need if you're making your own lavender powder:
- Dried lavender: make sure it's culinary grade for safe consumption.
- Granulated sugar
- Black currant powder: this will give the powder its pretty purple hue as the lavender flowers won't actually be purple enough. If you want the lavender Frappuccino to be purple, you'll definitely want this ingredient (or another purple fruit/veggie powder). It's not as important if you're making the iced lavender latte since the purple color doesn't really show up in the drink.
- Salt
- Soy lecithin powder: this ingredient is optional, but does help prevent the powder from clumping when its added to liquid. However, if you're only using this powder to make Frappuccinos, you won't need it as you'll be putting all the ingredients in a blender.
🪻 How to make lavender powder
I've searched around for a store-bought lavender powder and haven't been able to find one just yet (only lavender "powders" that are simply powdered dried lavender), though with the popularity of these drinks, I imagine there will be some on the market soon!
In the meantime, if you want to make your drink with lavender powder as
I do recommend using a spice grinder or coffee grinder to make it. But if you don't have a grinder, you can use a mortar and pestle to grind everything together or you can use a blender or food processor. The grinder will really get you the finest powder though.
Start by putting the dried lavender in a spice blender.
And grinding it up into a powder. Move it to a small bowl.
The beautiful purple lavender turns into a brownish yellow mixture once you grind it up. Kind of disappointing, right?
But that's why you add the black currant powder.
Mix that in, along with the granulated sugar, salt, and soy lecithin powder (if using).
As I mentioned, the soy lecithin powder isn't necessary if you're only using the lavender powder to make Frappuccinos. It does help the powder dissolve into liquids better (Starbucks uses soybean oil in their powder), but since you use a blender to make Frappuccinos, you'll have no problem at all.
Now, put the mixture back in the grinder (you'll likely have to work in batches) and process again until you get a fine powder.
I recommend storing your lavender powder in a mason jar or another airtight container and keeping it at room temperature.
👩🍳 How to make the Lavender Crème Frappuccino
Now that you have all your ingredients ready, you are set to whip up your copycat Lavender Crème Frappuccino. This part is easy!
Just add milk, cream, vanilla syrup, lavender powder (or syrup), and xanthan gum to a blender.
Add ice.
And process until smooth and frothy.
Pour into a cup and top off with whipped cream if desired.
I almost never opt for whipped cream on my Frappuccinos, but I feel like it's pretty necessary for the lavender Frappuccino because it is such a pretty contrast with the pale purple mixture!
Lavender fans, rejoice! The Lavender Crème Frappuccino is the perfect combination of sweet and floral creaminess.
Though it definitely has that floral lavender flavor, it's not overpowering at all. A lot of people are saying the combination of lavender and vanilla actually tastes a bit like Froot Loops. Or the milk at the bottom of a bowl of Froot Loops!
It's not the kind of drink I usually crave when I go to
🎉 How to customize
This drink is one of the simplest copycat
Here are some ideas:
- You can easily control the strength of the lavender flavor by adding more or less of the powder in. Remember that the powder will also add sweetness, so you may need to play around with the ratio of vanilla syrup and lavender powder that you use.
- To add more fruity flavor to the Lavender Crème Frappuccino, consider mixing in strawberry puree, strawberry syrup, or raspberry syrup. Blueberry syrup would also be delicious.
- Or you can blend frozen berries into your Frappuccino mix.
- If you're looking for a little more sweetness, but don't want more lavender or vanilla flavor, you can add in some honey. Lavender and honey is the best combination!
- Swirl in a some matcha powder for a pretty look and a sweeter spin on the iced lavender matcha drink.
- Swirl chocolate syrup into the drink for a delicious chocolate lavender Frapp.
- Mix a little earl grey concentrate into the Frappuccino to add a little caffeine and to enjoy the classic combo.
- Squeeze some lemon juice into the drink for some added brightness.
🥛 Can I make this dairy-free?
I have not made a dairy-free version of this drink, but it can certainly be done. You'll just likely have to do some experimenting to get the consistency and flavors down.
I recommend trying with creamy oat milk. Coconut milk is also a good option for making vegan Frappuccinos, but keep in mind it will add coconut flavor to your drinks.
If you can find macadamia nut milk or cashew nut milk, they could work well, too. If you have a "creamy" option, definitely opt for that.
⚡️ How much caffeine is in this drink?
Great news for anyone trying to avoid caffeine- there is no caffeine in this Frappuccino!
🍬 How much sugar is in this drink?
Bad news for anyone trying to avoid sugar. Of the three new lavender drinks at

Christine Nguyen says
Is it possible to make this recipe with vanilla soy milk?
Sues says
Hi Christine- I haven't tried with soy milk, but you definitely can! The Frappuccino won't be quite as thick as if you used whole milk and cream, but the xanthan gum will help thicken it and make it frothy!
Portia says
Very sweet try without the vanilla syrup.
