All I want for Christmas is gingerbread flavored everything. Seriously, I've been on a major gingerbread kick lately and have been craving the festive flavor in all of my seasonal treats.
And I just created something that makes infusing gingerbread flavor into everything SO easy. It's Gingerbread Syrup and you can make it in just minutes and keep it in your fridge all holiday season long.

What is Simple Syrup?
This gingerbread syrup is a simple syrup, which means it's sugar and water boiled together until a syrup is formed. Of course, I also added gingerbread spices to flavor the syrup.
Simple syrups are an essential ingredient behind many bars as they offer an easy way to sweeten and flavor cocktails.
The syrups also have lots of other uses besides drinks, which I'll talk about more below.

It's incredibly easy to make and should keep in your fridge for about a month. It also makes a fun holiday gift to give to any gingerbread lovers in your life.
This syrup doesn't require much at all and chances are you already have all of the ingredients in your kitchen, especially if you have a fully-stocked spice cabinet. Here's what you need:
- Granulated sugar
- Ground ginger
- Ground cinnamon
- Ground allspice
- Ground nutmeg
How to Make Gingerbread Syrup
And the process for making gingerbread syrup is also incredibly easy. If you've ever made a simple syrup before, you'll know exactly what to do. Even if it's your first time, you'll have no problem at all!
Simple put all the ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring mixture to a boil.
I put the sugar, molasses, and water in my saucepan and sprinkle the spices over the top.
Once the mixture is boiling, lower the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes, until the sugar is completely dissolved and mixture has thickened a bit.
This syrup is a bit thicker than the syrups I typically make because of the molasses. It will thicken up even more as it cools.
Oh and chances are, your house will begin smelling like freshly baked gingerbread. Which is obviously the best.
Now, pour the syrup into a mason jar or bowl and place it in the fridge to cool completely before using.
Once cooled, you can use the gingerbread syrup in a whole myriad of ways!
If you're not inclined to just lick it off the spoon. Which I may have done a little bit.
How to Use
Like I mentioned, the main use for simple syrups is in drinks. But that doesn't mean that's all you can do with it! Here are some of my favorite ways to use this gingerbread syrup:
- Cocktail Mixers: You can turn any kind of cocktail into a holiday cocktail with this gingerbread syrup! I love the idea of a gingerbread vodka soda, but also know this syrup would go really well with dark liquors like whiskey or rum.
- Homemade Soda: Gingerbread soda? It's so easy with this syrup! All you have to do is mix a little of it into soda water and you have an instant treat that kids and adults will both love! Add a little gingerbread man onto the side of the glass for a fun garnish.
- Coffee Flavoring: Gingerbread coffee is one of my favorite seasonal treats and this is the best way to make it! Just drizzle a bit into your coffee and it will transform it into holiday coffee. - Cake Moistener: Lots of people use simple syrups to moisten and flavor their homemade cakes. Just brush a little bit on to your baked and cooled cake and you'll also be adding some holiday flavor to it! This would be delicious on any flavor cake, but especially vanilla or chocolate.
- Baking Ingredient: Use this simple syrup in a multitude of baked good recipes to add a touch of gingerbread flavor.
- Oatmeal and Yogurt Topping: Add some sweetness and flavor to your healthy breakfast with a drizzle of this syrup!
- Pancake, Waffle, and French Toast Topping: Instead of maple syrup, drizzle gingerbread syrup over your pancakes, waffles, and more!
- Ice Cream Topping: I love the idea of topping vanilla or chocolate ice cream with this syrup!
- Cocktail Rimmer: Brunch some gingerbread syrup on the rim of your cocktail glass and then coat it in sugar for a deliciously sweet gingerbread rim.
How to Store
Be sure to store your gingerbread syrup in an airtight container in the fridge. When stored properly, it should keep fresh for about a month.
However, note that this recipe does make slightly more than a cup of syrup.

How to Make More
It's also very easy to make more of this syrup if you want to! This is especially useful if you're making it for cocktails you'll be serving at a party or will be adding it to your coffee every day!
Simple double or triple the amounts of ingredients to make as much as you want. you can do this all in one batch with no problem, though you may have to simmer for a little bit longer.
